It is troubling that acts of state-sponsored violence against people of colour — Black, Indigenous and racialized people in Canada continue to permeate our democracy, even though the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom purports “Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination.” There seems to be no end to racist policing practices amidst the pseudo-narratives shared and we pride ourselves that … we are not like our neighbours south of the border.
