The Siege on the Capitol and Degeneracy of Morality

The glaring disparity in response to the juxtaposition of imagery from the Black Lives Matter peaceful protest in Washington DC (June 2020) in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd by a police officer and the Siege of the Capitol (January 2021); is dystopian. The latter the world watched in wonderment as the tumultuous mob of insurrectionists was given unfettered access to storm the US Capitol in a failed coup de tat and the former in astonishment, the heavy-handedness of police brutality on peaceful demonstrators.

Building Resilience, Inclusiveness and Anti-Racist Organizations

Celeste Sloman Photography

We are at a crucial juncture in our collective humanity where the need and desire for change are profound. Humanity is contending with COVID-19 as the second wave rages on. The call for racial justice, defunding police in major metropolitan centres to upend police brutality on black people; and the renewed focus on organizations to move from ‘checkbox’ diversity and inclusion initiatives to transformational strategies to upend institutional racism beckons.

The world as we know it is not in a state of ‘inertia’, it is in a state of upheaval, which seems to be…

Deconstructing Oppression, Amplifying Change and Intentional Actions

Hugh Anthony, PhD

The protests and the platitudes have exposed a fault line in our societies and some unpleasant things about our collective humanity. In over 350 cities across the globe the chants of “no justice, no peace” and “I can’t breathe” against police brutality; and the rallying cry of voices that “Black Lives Matter” and “silence is violence” against systemic racism and oppression have echoed in the annals of our souls. …

The massive protests in the United States have fueled a ‘conscience checking at the door’ amidst the upheavals of the pandemic and for many nations as their sordid histories have brought on days of reckoning. This the Washington Post described as “their own countries controversial racial histories and policies” and societal constructs built on the principles of inequality, exploitation and injustice. The global protests have created a movement, a moment and a mood, that is important to the essence of black people, their humanity and their stories. …

The death of George Floyd, an African American male by a white police officer with his knee in his neck in Minneapolis, USA and the words “I can’t breathe” ricochets in the annals of humanity’s soul, which provoked the subsequent protests around race, police brutality and social injustice. His inhumane death has created a movement that echoes in our minds and hearts a rallying cry for fundamental and sustained change for our collective humanity and in particular black and indigenous lives. …

Black Lives Matter

The global protests in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, an African American by a white police officer in Minneapolis, USA have resulted in a widespread call for fundamental change to policing and systemic racism. In Canada, recently Doug Ford, the Premier for the province of Ontario, the nation’s most populous province said, “Canada doesn’t have systemic, deep roots of racism as the US.” …

Strategies and techniques for amplifying Corporate Reporting

I recently attended a forum for finance professionals hosted by one of the world’s largest professional bodies — Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) — learning about the myriad of issues facing the profession with the ‘new normal’ — the climate crisis. The call for the profession to respond are more urgent than ever; and a question that dawdled with me was: How can businesses incorporate accounting for the climate emergency in their reporting? The recognition that there is need for leadership in how businesses respond to what is now a ‘clear and…

Creating emotional connections with Customers

Executive Storytelling

Brands are not mutually exclusive to their stories, it is the people who provide leadership and spearhead the strategies to make it compelling, desirable and appealing to potential customers. Actually, they are synergistically linked because storytelling is at the heart of leading organizations. Creating powerful brand authenticity requires not only visual, engaging and targeted strategies; it also involves curating stories about the brand’s promise and experiences that are incredible and emotionally powerful. It also requires executives who are engaging, excited and can emotionally connect the brand and its customers through telling good stories. According to…
